“Ice” the movie
Lake Ontario from County Road 8 in March at around 4 pm. The photo is being processed by an algorithm that I wrote. Each pixel is assigned a mass according to its luminence—the darker the pixel the lower its mass. The program then applies a force to each pixel. In accordance with Newton’s laws, the force displaces each pixel in successive iterations. The result is a dreamy contemplation of the original scene. The opening stages of the video offer impressionist renderings. Gradually, the abstraction produces a frost-like pattern reminiscent of the ice in the original image.
